How to Arrange Your Worship Songs

How to arrange your worship songs

There are two main schools of thought when it comes to arranging worship songs for your team: let your musicians play whatever they come up with or learn the parts note for note.

What if you could have the best of both worlds?

1 | Encourage your team to learn the parts (guitar, vocal, piano, etc.) note for note from the artist's original recording.

This is important because somebody paid a producer real  money to produce the song. This is somebody who has spent their entire career studying how certain instrumental and vocal parts work when put together. So, even if you don't plan on having your team play the song note for note, it's a valuable learning experience for them to learn how pieces of a song can work together.

2 | Adapt the parts for your own environment.

The original producer probably had a ton of different options when it came to what instrument played what part, what specific musician should play what part, and so on. You might not have all the options they have but what you can do is adapt the parts to fit in your context. Maybe a synth plays that lead coming out of the last chorus - You don't have a synth player? Have a guitar play it. Maybe a male vocalist sings the second verse - You don't have a male vocalist? Have a female vocalist sing it!

It's all about adapting the musical arrangement to your environment. But at the end of the day, it's still important to understand how musical parts work together.
