3 Things You Can Do If You Get Distracted While Leading Worship
You know those moments while you're leading worship where you get to the second verse of a song and the right words are coming out of your mouth, you're playing the right chords, but your mind is focused on something completely different? You're wondering why people are still out in the lobby. You're listening to the baby crying in the back row. Or you're trying to remember if Chik-Fil-A is open on Sundays (pst... it's not!)
There are so many things going on while you're leading worship that it's easy to get distracted. So what can you do?
Here are 3 thing you can do if you get distracted while leading worship:
1 | Recognize that you've become distracted
The funny thing is sometimes we get so distracted that we don't even realize that we're distracted in the first place. These thoughts just pop into your head out of nowhere and three minutes later you realize you haven't even been thinking about leading worship. The first step in stopping that cycle is recognizing when you've become distracted. It's a hard skill to develop but, once you do, you'll be able to curb your distraction quickly.
2 | Think about the words you're singing
Once you've recognized that you've become distracted, you need to shift your focus. The most tangible thing you can focus on are the lyrics of the song you're singing. When your mind wanders, wander back to the truth you're singing about. Think about what they mean. Think about how they affect your life. Think about how they apply to the people you're leading.
3 | Forgive yourself
When you get distracted while leading worship, God isn't mad at you. He already knows who you are and what you're struggling with. So learn to forgive yourself just like God forgives you. Refocus and keep worshiping God!
