3 Things You Should Always Have with You When You Lead Worship
Here are 3 things you should always have with you when you lead worship:
1 | Extra battery
One of the most common technical problems are dead batteries. Fortunately, it's also the easiest problem to fix! Keep an extra battery with you always. 9v - AA whatever you need to keep your gear going. If you're a guitar player, keep it by your pedal board. If you can't do that, keep one in your pocket. That way you don't have to communicate with whoever's in the sound room. You will literally have the solution to your problem in your pocket.
2 | A "go-to" song
You should always have a "go-to" song. This is a song that you can go into at any moment. A "go-to" song requires two things: you have to know it really well and your congregation has to know it really well. These are songs you keep in the back of your mind in case of emergency - if the power goes out, if the projector stops working, if your team completely forgets how to play the song you had planned. Things happen and at a moment's notice you might need to have a song that everyone knows without any music or lyrics in front of them.
3 | Back up plan
Run through your signal chain in your mind - all the way from your instrument to the soundboard. Take note of what would happen if each of those components failed. What would you do? What would happen if you broke a guitar string? Simply thinking through these things helps you prepare for them.
The same is true for non-technical things. What would happen if your pastor's message was extremely short and you suddenly had 15 extra minutes in your gathering? Or what if your pastor went long and you only had 3 minutes at the end of your gathering? Think through the what-ifs and have a plan for when they happen.
