3 Ways to Honor Your Worship Team
One of the best ways to keep your team in good spirits is to honor them. Treat them like you would want to be treated if you were being led on a team. Think about teams you were previously on: what were the pain points? Use those experiences to help lead your team.
Here are 3 ways to honor your worship team:
1 | Honor their time
Most worship team members are not paid. The currency your team works in is time. So the best way to honor your team is to honor their time. This takes a practical form in a few ways. First, you have got to start your gatherings on time, every time. When you say you are going to meet for rehearsal at 6pm, be ready to start a 6pm. It doesn't matter if someone isn't there yet, honor the people who have showed up on time.
Second, have a plan for your time together. Have things set up and ready to go. Have what you want to work on already planned out. This keeps rehearsal moving and honors your team's time.
2 | Give them a break
Give your team regularly breaks. Your team members should have the ability to take at least a few weeks off during the year. In fact, you should encourage it because healthy teams rest. Not only that but it forces you to create redundancy. Who is able to play guitar when you're regular guitar player is gone on vacation? Honor your team by helping them prioritize rest. This will create a team that is able to consistently serve for a long time.
3 | Set them up for success
Make your team's job as easy as possible. Get them the song list well in advance - give them plenty of time to learn their parts. Give them the arrangements you want them to learn so they don't have to guess what you want. Get them chord charts and lead sheets. Make sure they all have what they need when they arrive on Sunday morning (instrument cables, microphones, batteries, etc.).
