3 Ways To Make Leading Worship More Than A Routine
Have you ever felt the routine of leading worship? You show up for worship rehearsal, come back early on Sunday, pick songs for the next week, and repeat the process all over again. Sunday's here but Sunday's coming. It can seem like a never ending cycle. So how do you break the routine?
Here are 3 ways you can make leading worship more than just a routine:
1 | Properly prepare
Routine sets in when you have a small view of preparation. It's easy to feel like leading worship is a routine when you only view your responsibility as showing up and playing through a few songs. If you want to break the routine, you've got to expand your understanding of how to prepare to lead worship.
You should be preparing to craft a set that flows together and speaks into the lives of your congregation. People's lives are constantly changing which means the specific truth of God's word that you choose to highlight can be different every week. No longer are you just preparing songs to play on Sunday but you are preparing truth to speak over your church and allow them to respond to.
2 | Remind yourself of the privilege you have
Remind yourself that not everyone gets to do this. God has uniquely called you to lead worship in your church. When you accept that truth, you'll start preparing properly. You'll recognize the privilege you have in leading your church in worship.
3 | Take a break
Sometimes, feeling like leading worship is a routine is a sign of burnout. When you feel like leading worship is a never ending circle, the answer might be to BREAK the routine by taking a BREAK. Plan a Sunday off! It doesn't have to be next week but work with your pastor to find a way to get yourself a Sunday off. That might mean bringing in a guest worship leader. Or it might mean your church worships in a different way for that Sunday. Whatever it is - if this feeling of routine has been going on for a while and there doesn't seem to be any end in sight - take a break.
