1 | Not everyone's ready to worship
Think about what your week looks like leading up to your Sunday service. You've prepared all week for this moment. Needless to say, when your service starts, YOU are ready to worship.
Here's the problem: that's not the normal schedule of the people in your church. Most people woke up an hour ago, got the kids ready, and got to church right as the countdown hit 0. While you might be ready to worship, chances are not everyone is there with you. Keep these people in mind when you lead. Set them up to enter into worship - don't assume that they're instantly ready.
2 | Not everyone had a horrible week
Have you ever been to a sad worship gathering? Do you know what I'm talking about? Those gatherings where the leader assumes that everyone has the worst life ever. Like everything in everyone's life is on the brink of utter disaster. While that may be true for some people, it's not true for everyone. And the truth is that the people whose lives are going great need God just as much as the people whose lives aren't going well.
3 | Not everyone had a good week
Not everyone has had a good week either. Have you ever been to a gathering where the leader is over the top on how amazing life is? Everything is FANTASTIC! The secret to not alienating people in your congregation is to allow both extremes a chance to respond.
4 | Not everyone knows how to worship
Some people don't know what to do during corporate worship. Do they sing along? Do they sit or stand? As a leader, it's your job to make sure people know what to do. So take a moment to explain it to them. Let them know how they can participate. Connect the dots!
5 | Not everyone is a musician
If you are on the worship team, hopefully you have some musical ability. The thing is, that's not the norm for the people in your congregation. Keep them in mind when leading. Pick friendly keys. Pick arrangements that will allow people to participate.
