How To Take A Day Off The Week Before Easter
Let's face it: next week is going to be crazy! You've got extra services. You've got special elements in those services. There's a lot going on. How could you ever take a day off leading up to Easter? There's too much to do!
But the thing is... you can. Really - you just have to do these 3 things.
Here are 3 things you need to do in order to take a day off the week before Easter:
1 | Give yourself permission
Most worship leaders have it in their mind that they don't have permission to take a day off the week before Easter. You might feel guilty about it - Easter is one of the BIG church holidays - you should probably be working extra hard this week. In fact, you probably think you'll feel better about yourself if you're able to say, "I worked so hard this week that I didn't even take a single day off."
I get it. It feels right. But it's not.
You will not be able to lead better on Easter because you didn't take a day off. There is no substitute for rest. And that day off starts with you giving yourself permission to take it!
2 | Schedule it
Now that you've given yourself permission, commit to your day off. Not just mentally - write it down in your schedule. Pick the day of the week you want to take off and write in big bold letters "DAY OFF." This process will make you work more effectively the rest of the week.
You see, there's this law called "Parkinson's Law." This law states: Your work will expand to fill the time you have set aside to complete it. Narrowing your time frame for the work you have to complete helps you do it more efficiently.
Don't trust yourself to actually take a day off? Make plans to spend time with someone else so you can't just "accidentally work" on your day off.
3 | Get to work!
Just because you are committing to a day off doesn't mean that there isn't still a lot to do - it's time to get to work. Start today. Do one small thing TODAY that will set you up for an easier week next week.
