Sustainable Ministry In The Age Of Online Church
Hey online content creating worship leader! This season is hard.
As someone who has created online content regularly for the past 2 and a half years, I know the struggle you're going through.
It's a grind to consistently put out videos and posts and whatever else you're doing to lead the people you love in this age of online church.
Let me remind you: it's so necessary that we do it SUSTAINABLY.
Here are 3 ways to make sure your ministry is sustainable in the age of online church:
1 | Keep things as simple as possible
Listen, SIMPLICITY is your friend.
The key to creating consistently is finding a content creation set up that works for your context and sticking to it.
There is always going to be a new piece of gear and fancier way of doing things. And it's not bad to develop your technical skills. But, when you find something that works, call it "good enough" and focus on creating content.
That being said, SIMPLICITY is measured differently depending on your church.
Maybe for you, it means just setting up your phone on a tripod and going live on Facebook - there's nothing wrong with that.
For others, you might have a full production set up with multiple camera angles and a staff behind you to support doing that.
Define what "simple" looks like in your church, then stop focusing on gear, and start focusing on leading your people.
2 | Set up systems
Your systems will keep you sane.
And the good news is you've probably already started to develop systems now that you've been leading online for a while.
The more you have a set way of doing things in place, the easier they become.
When do you record your services? What gear do you use? What's your plan on incorporating the rest of your worship team?
Find a system that works, allow it to slowly improve over time, and stick to it!
3 | Don't do everything yourself
Even in isolation, you weren't meant to do ministry by yourself.
Get your team involved even if it is more difficult than you just doing things on your own.
Work to involve them in your Sunday morning gatherings. Set up Zoom meetings to bounce ideas of each other. Have someone else go live on Facebook and lead worship for a change.
