To Solo or Not to Solo?

Should you solo in worship?

Simply put, soloing can quickly become performance when leading worship.

So, should worship team musicians solo during worship?

First of all, if you're a bass player you should never solo... Just kidding!

When it comes to solos, they should be used sparingly.

Always ask the question: is this allowing people to focus on God? Or is this going to draw attention to me?

Sometimes instrumental solos allow people to focus on God. An empty instrumental section can be just as distracting as a sweep picking solo during Heart of Worship.

Simple melodies always work best. Think of your soloing as a lead line. Something that draws the song forward and doesn't draw attention to yourself.

What are your thoughts on soloing during worship?
