How to Pray More Confidently in Public - Focus on Your Private Prayers
Prayer is an act of worship. Therefore, as a worship leader, it makes sense that part of your responsibility is to lead people in prayer.
One thing many new worship leaders are self-conscious about is the way that they pray.
How do I know what to pray? What do I say when I pray? What if I get stuck while praying in front of people?
One way you can get better at publicly praying is to focus on your private prayers.
A public prayer life should flow out of your private prayer life.
Take time to practice your praying in private (it is a spiritual discipline after all). This is something we all know we should be doing but it's easy to neglect.
A few things happen when you pray privately:
1| Your prayer vocabulary expands
Praying is like talking. The more we talk the more words we learn.
2 | You become more aware of people's needs
As you pray for people, the Holy Spirit makes you more aware of their needs. You can pull these ideas in when you're praying publicly.
3 | You feel more confident when talking to God
The more you do something the more comfortable you feel doing it. The same is true when it comes to praying.
In the end, it's like learning an instrument. You wouldn't try to play a guitar in front of people if you didn't practice privately. Do the same with prayer!
