3 Things Worship Leaders Can Do To Prepare For The New Year
New years are always filled with excitement. The unknown lurks around that switch from your "2019 Cat Calendar" to your "2020 Special Edition Baby Yoda Calendar" that your kids got you for Christmas.
And perhaps that excitement and unknown is present in your worship ministry as well. What will the new year bring?
Maybe there isn't a concrete answer - it's something you'll just have to experience. But, there are a few things you can do to prepare to lead worship well this coming year!
Here are 3 things worship leaders can do to prepare for the new year:
1 | Rest!
The NUMBER 1 thing you can do leading into the new year is get more rest! Just committing to taking it easy for a few more days as 2019 comes to a close will allow you to confidently step into 2020 ready to lead like never before instead of stumbling into it exhausted.
Find time to get a few more prolonged periods of rest in before the new year!
2 | Work ON your ministry instead of IN your ministry
A common mistake worship leaders make is only working IN their ministry and never working ON their ministry. Both are essential to leading well.
Working IN your ministry is the act of doing things. It's picking out songs, leading your worship rehearsals, learning new songs, crafting speaking transitions, and leading worship on Sunday mornings.
Working ON your ministry is taking an overhead view of what your ministry is and figuring out how you can improve it. It's about planning for the future.
And when the busy season hits (like it just did during Christmas), worship leaders focus on working IN their ministry. That's okay but don't let that be all you do headed into the new year.
Take a few moments this week to work ON your ministry. Figure out what's working well and what could be improved. Create a system that will make working IN your ministry easier this year.
3 | Set goals
