3 Worship Leading Phenomena That NEED NOT Be "Supernatural Spontaneous Acts Of God"
I want to be careful with how I phrase this but... sometimes we OVER SPIRITUALIZE things that happen in our worship leading.
Hear me out...
I believe that God's Spirit working in and through us is the ONLY way that we are enabled to lead worship.
That being said: the Holy Spirit doesn't just work through us on Sunday mornings - he's with us throughout the entire week.
That means that the SPONTANEOUS is no more powerful than the PREPARED.
And yet (and I've done this as well), worship leaders identify God's movement best when he moves in unexpected ways.
That seems supernatural - when God moves in a way you didn't expect.
But, if God's Spirit is the power through which we lead every time we lead worship - every act of worship leading is supernatural whether the Holy Spirit works through us on a Monday evening as we plan our set list OR in the moment on Sunday morning.
Here are 3 worship leading phenomena that NEED NOT BE "supernatural, spontaneous acts of God":
1 | The "perfect song" to sing coming out of your pastor's sermon
Don't you love those Sundays when the song you sing coming out of your pastor's message is the "perfect song?"
What if that could happen EVERY Sunday? Well, it can!
All it takes is coordinating with your pastor in advance and asking: "Where do you feel like God is leading our church this weekend?"
Then, they tell you what they're preaching on and you pick a song that supports that idea.
2 | You speaking truth into the lives of the people of your church
Your speaking transitions don't need to be spontaneous. You can plan them in advance.
Pray through the question: "Where is God leading my church this Sunday? What truth does he want to reveal?"
Then, craft a speaking transition that communicates that truth clearly.
3 | Something "special" and "out of the ordinary" happening during your service
Those times where you "get an idea" to try to something out of the ordinary during your service and you trust the Spirit's leading and go for it... you can plan those in advance.
Not every Sunday has to follow the same framework. Take the time to plan things in advance to make your service different.
