5 Things To Do When Things Go Wrong At Worship Rehearsal
Have you ever had one of those rehearsals where it just felt like everything was going wrong? Your team was struggling to get through that new song. Or you just didn't feel like being there. It's easy to feel helpless in those situations. But, there are a few steps you can take to redeem a rehearsal that's gone wrong!
Here are 5 things to do when things go wrong at worship rehearsal:
1 | Stop and Pray
I'm not talking about a quick 5 second prayer that you say silently in your head. The best thing you can do when things are falling apart is stop the entire rehearsal and pray together. This reminds your team that prayer changes things. It gives them a moment to refocus and remember why they're rehearsing in the first place.
2 | Have a system for your rehearsals already in place
This is a preventative measure. It's good to have a system for your rehearsals - a set schedule - for numerous reasons. But, one benefit of having a system in place is that it tells you what to do when things are falling apart. When you don't feel like being there - when you don't have the mental energy to decide what to do next - follow the system you've already put in place.
3 | Push through
Now that you have a system in place, follow it! Trust that the processes you've put in place beforehand are enough to prepare you sufficiently for Sunday morning. Not every rehearsal has to be the best rehearsal in the world but, if you're team consistently puts in the work (even when they don't feel like it), they'll lead well on Sunday.
4 | Don't beat yourself up
The truth is, if you have rehearsals for any real length of time, there's going to be one or two rehearsals that stink. It's just a matter of fact. So don't beat yourself up for one bad rehearsal - follow the system, push through, and move on!
5 | Make sure this is an isolated incident and not a recurring pattern
Afterwards, take a look at your past 5 rehearsals and make sure they didn't all feel like "bad" rehearsals. That could be a sign that you need to change things up in the way you run your rehearsals. But, if it was just an isolated incident, congratulate your team for pushing through when things were hard and move on!
