3 Questions To Ask To Build The Perfect Set That Supports Your Pastor's Message
Last week we looked at 3 reasons why the songs you choose for your worship set should connect with your pastor's message. Now, let's take a look at how to actually do it.
You can obviously just match up the theme of the songs you choose with where your pastor is headed. But what if there was a system you could implement week in and week out that could guide you? It all starts with asking the right questions!
Here are 3 questions to ask to build the perfect set that supports your pastor's message:
1 | Where is my pastor headed?
You've got to know the destination before you decide how you're going to get there! You should be in contact with your pastor early in the week to figure out where they're headed. Send them a text, shoot them an email, however you think is best to communicate - but work with them to come up with a direction for your next worship gathering.
And yes, I hear you: "My pastor doesn't know what they're preaching on until Saturday night!" Finding the answer to this question isn't completely reliant on you - it takes your pastor being prepared in advance as well. So how do you get your pastor on the same page? Have a conversation with them explaining the benefits of how it can help you plan a better worship service. Also, make sure to let them know you don't need a completed message by Monday night. You just need to know a general direction and what scripture they'll be teaching from.
2 | How can I introduce that message?
Once you have a direction, start thinking how you can support it. What songs can you choose that will introduce the topic to your congregation? Think about topics that connect with your pastor's main point. If it's about grace, forgiveness fits in the conversation. If it's about God's love, just choose Reckless Love and call it a day ;)!
3 | How can I allow people to respond to that message?
This is the easy part - find a song that allows people to directly respond to the truth they just heard. Sometimes people don't know what to say after they hear a message so give them the words they need to respond to God!
