3 Ways To Embrace Simplicity In Your Worship Ministry
How complicated is your worship ministry? The single greatest thing you can do is embrace simplicity! Filling your ministry with complicated things makes you feel productive but it's actually laziness in disguise. Instead of focusing on one or two big things - you focus on a million little things that don't really push the needle forward.
So, instead of trying to accomplish a million tiny things or adding more to your ministry so that you can feel productive - embrace simplicity.
Here are 3 ways to embrace simplicity in your worship ministry:
1 | Your gear
Ever buy a piece of gear because you thought it was exactly what you needed to make something sound better? Then, it arrives and you realize you have no idea how to fully utilize it - incorporating it into your workflow actually makes things more complicated - and in the end it just slows you down?
9 times out of 10 the solution to your problem is not more gear. Unless you legitimately cannot accomplish a certain task (ie. your sound board only has 12 channels and you need 32), you don't need more gear! In fact, you should be trying to build a set up that utilizes the least amount of pieces necessary.
2 | Your instrumentation
The same goes for your worship team instrumentation. Use what you have! Worship leaders always ask: "What instrument should I add to my worship team next?" Instead, utilize the talents of the people already in your church. What instruments do they play? Don't worry about the amount of instruments on your team - the truth is: if you can't arrange them to sound good - you won't be able to arrange those 2 more guitarists, drummer, and auxiliary keyboard player you want either.
3 | Your systems
Finally, keep the systems of your worship team streamlined. Auditions, how you introduce new music, how you pick songs, how you distribute songs, etc. - you should have a system in place for all of these things. When worship leaders hear that, they think they need to sit down and spend hours creating a system (so they never do it). The truth is - you probably already have a system in place for how you do these things. Write that system down and streamline it as much as you possibly can.
