3 Worship Ministry Areas To Re-Evaluate In 2019

As 2019 begins, it's a great time to take a step back and reevaluate what's working and what isn't working in your worship ministry. Maybe the way you did things in 2018 worked for a season but now it's time to take the next step. Or maybe what you tried to incorporate last year simply didn't work at all. That's okay - you learn from failure. The failure isn't the important part it's what you do with it. So pick yourself up and ask the question: how can I make this better?

Here are 3 worship ministry areas to re-evaluate in 2019:

1 | Rehearsals

Think about what a normal rehearsal looks like for you and your team. How do you spend your time? What's the schedule? If you don't have any plan going into rehearsals other than "we're going to run through the songs for Sunday," take a moment to come up with a schedule for your time together. When you have a plan for people's time, it shows them that you honor their commitment.

If you already have a plan for your rehearsals, think through how you're spending your time. Do you really need to run through every song on the set list? (Even that one you did for the past 3 weeks in a row?) Maybe the answer is yes - only you know what's right for your team. But don't just assume because you've done things a specific way for the past 5 years that that's the way you should continue to do them.

2 | Song list

Get out your song list and go through each song. Ask the question: does this song still apply to the season we're in as a church? After you've gone through the songs on your list, start to look for holes that you need to fill in. Maybe that's a specific theme that you don't have many songs about. Or maybe it's simply that you have a ton of slow songs but don't have many fast songs. Use this reflection to plan out what songs you'll introduce in 2019!

3 | Who can you invite to join the team?

We all want our teams to grow but sometimes we neglect the simple fact that if we want that to happen we have to actually ask people to join! Hopefully some new people started coming to your church this past year. Take an inventory of any musical skill and ask them if they'd be interested in joining the worship team!
